I am reading David McCullough’s “Wright Brothers” and there are several times when wing warping is mentioned so I checked it out. My Cessna and all airplanes today use ailerons to induce added lift to wing tips which in turn helps (rudder is simultaneously applied) turn the airplane. If rudder is not simultaneously applied the plane will skid and can stall; not a good thing when you are close to the ground e.g. in the landing pattern. Stalls are also the prelude to spins and some planes are especially hard to recover from spins. Wing warping was patented by the Wright Brothers and is the result of their attempts to find a way to turn the airplane.
