Short Snorters

I learned about “Short Snorters” in a book I am reading entitled “Frozen in Time” which is a true story that took place during WW II. A cargo plane went down in Greenland. A B-17 bomber diverted from its maiden flight to Europe via Greenland crashed searching for the cargo plane. Finally, a Coast Guard “Duck” airplane crashed looking for the bomber. The book is about the effort to bring the planes and crews home, alive or dead.

Encounter with wolves

March 25, 2011

I had a similar encounter, of my own choosing, with wolves that the snowmobiler in the below video had. I was in Alaska’s Denali Park alone and in my car when I spotted three wolves off in the distance (only two are visible in the below top photo). I got out of my car to get some better pictures of the wolves and got fairly close. They showed no signs of aggression even though they did not appear to be overly fat carnivores.  As I think back on the experience it was probably not my brightest move. I have no idea what I would have done had they decided I looked tasty. The bottom link is to a Weather Channel video of a stranded snowmobiler who also encountered some not-so-dangerous wolves.
