Room at the Inn is one of the charities I work for and I am proud of the help we give to some of the less fortunate. I feel that many folks did not have the breaks I had in my life and with a little help they might get traction and make their lives better. Below is a positive story about one family we have helped. Having been a member of my church’s homeless program for about 5 years has allowed me to know “homelessness” on a more personal level. Living out of a plastic bag and moving to a different shelter each night is not a good way to live. Our program has had some success stories but it is nice to see a different approach succeed:
I met these homeless folks on my 24 mile trike ride yesterday to St Charles and wondered if it was fate because I volunteer for our church homeless program. They are walking (150 miles) to Jefferson City to try to raise awareness about the homeless. A minimum wage employee must work 89 hours per week to pay for a two bedroom apartment:
