Don’t mess with old people

November 23, 2014

A strong young man at a construction site was bragging that he could out-do anyone in a feat of strength.

He made a special case of making fun of one of the older workmen.  After several minutes, the older worker had enough.

‘Why don’t you put your money where your mouth is,’ he said.  ‘I’ll bet a week’s  wages that I can haul something in a wheelbarrow over to that building, that you won’t be able to wheel back.’

‘You’re on, old man,’ the braggart replied.  ‘Let’s see you do it.’   The old man reached out and grabbed the wheelbarrow by the handles.

Then, nodding to the young man, he said, ‘All right, Dumb Ass, get in.’

Newsflash to young people: We do not want to be young

May 8, 2012

Anna Quindlen Pulitzer Prize-winning writer discusses her memoir, “Lots of Candles, Plenty of Cake”. Anna interviewed many older adults and found some surprising attitudes. With a few caveats like adequate finances, health, etc most older adults when asked what age they would like to “return to” thought quietly for a few moments and said they did not want to “go back”. The question was asked after the old timers vented about their aching  joints and other old age  inconveniences but after contemplating the question were unanimous in their opinion that old age was where they wanted to be. I personally like being 73 and with the grace of God I hope to enjoy the rest of my days however many I have left. Point: Young folks do not dread getting older because for the majority of you life will keep getting better. To hear Anna’s interview with Tavis Smiley click below:
