Guns Already Carried by These Teachers

February 27, 2018

It seems to me that a school shooter would likely think twice about entering a school where multiple guns would be pointed at him. Arming only those teachers who want to be armed and have passed a rigorous safety course would greatly reduce the chance of innocent people being shot in any crossfire. Missouri has allowed teachers to be armed in some schools and so far those schools have not been the targets of shooters. Click below for an article about their experience:

Waiting for Superman

October 30, 2010

I saw the film “Waiting for Superman” last night. It is about our dysfunctional school systems in rural, urban and suburban America. We are seriously behind the rest of the world in everything except student confidence. Even though our students were 25th from the top in math compared to other countries they were confident they were good in math. In 2009 silicon valley hired thousands of workers for high paying  jobs but had to go outside the USA and bring them into the country for 60% of the positions. The good news coming out of the movie is that it is not a money problem. During the last 30 years we have doubled our expenditures per child after adjusting for inflation. We do have  systemic problems but a few of the schools have bucked the trend so there is hope. If you are interested in education I believe you will like the movie; it received the Audience Award for best documentary at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.
